The Effect Of Questioning Strategy On Student’s Speaking Skill

There are many skills in English such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Speaking as productive skill where students actually have to produce language themselves. Many of students are not still confident to speak especially in English. In this research, the researchers were aimed to find out the effect of applying Questioning Strategy on students' speaking skill. This research was conducted at SMP YASPENHAN 2 Medan with a total of 60 students. Data was collected from students’ pre-test and post-test. The method of this research was quantitative method. The research design used quasi experimental research. The sample of this study was class of IX SMP YASPENHAN 2 Medan which consisted of 60 students and divided into two classes, the experimental class and the control class. The sample was consisted of 30 students in each classes. The experimental class was taught by using questioning strategy while control class was taught by using conventional method. The data were obtained from the test that analyzed using the SPSS 25 program. The result showed that the mean score of post-test for the control class was 69.6 while the mean score of post-test for the experimental class was 86.5. Based on the score of the hypothesis test, if sig, 2 tailed(p) was lower than the number alpha(α) 0.05, then Ho (Null Hypothesis) was rejected, and Ha (Alternative Hypothesis) was accepted. In this study, the result obtained sig. 2 tailed was 0.0001 < 0.05. It can be concluded that there was a significant effect of applying Questioning Strategy on students' speaking skill at SMP YASPENHAN 2 Medan.
